SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and perform different tasks using a command line. The protocol is popular with many skilled users, because the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be used for a number of things with regards to the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the hosting server allows for it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually everything - you could install software or restart particular services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your computer system is using a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although lots of providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Hosting
SSH access is offered with all Linux hosting
which we offer. With some of them, it is included as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can include with a couple of mouse clicks from your website hosting CP. You could get SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you will also find the information which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password which you'll use and, if necessary, you shall be able to modify it with a few mouse clicks from the same location. All commands that can be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
All our semi-dedicated server
accounts offer the possibility to access and handle them using SSH. If the package you have chosen incorporates this function by default, you just need to enable the SSH access function via the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the function is listed as an additional upgrade, you may quickly add it via the Add Services/Upgrades link inside the Hepsia CP and it'll be available within a minute. We have a variety of help articles and video lessons about the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands that you can perform along with a number of examples to give you a better perception of what you can do. If SSH is active, you shall also be able to set up an SFTP connection to the account and to upload information safely via any FTP app which supports the function.
SSH Telnet in VPS
You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content irrespective of which Linux VPS packages
you choose when you sign up, due to the fact that all of our plans include this feature by default. You won't have to include or enable anything by hand - the moment your web server is ready and you get the Welcome e mail with the login details, you could connect and begin working on your websites or any software you want to set up and run on the web server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and since the account will be separated from all the other accounts inside the physical server, you will be able to do anything you need with no restrictions. You can set up any application which you need and which shall work on a Linux-based machine, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
